First, I blame the skipper for signing this guy off. This Mid is obviously full of himself and extremely naive and thinks they all just love and respect the hell out of him.
Second, it is clear his wishes were indulged when they gave him his summer cruise gimmee-prize. His delusions now fueled, have led him to believe that becoming a submariner is just another college-boy lab practicum in Boat-101. Hell my students are now dissecting their fetal pigs and at the end of the semester they also get a practicum. Perhaps they should all be given a Ph.D. in advanced mammalian anatomy.
Third, he has compounded this charade by presumptuously posting on a board comprised of true submariners. Most of which are old enough to be his grandfather and who have worn out more seabags than he has socks.
Then he blathers on about "fellow submariners" just as pleased as punch. His summer cruise has blown a lot of smoke up his ass and he's strutting around fantasizing about waxing empathetic "with his men".
Now he mistakenly thinks it's all just a big MIT computer game. When some Chinese boat lays in his baffles some day it will no longer be an intellectual exercise. Hope he knows what to do.
It's a shame they are just shining these kids on like this.
NON-ENLISTED PERSONNEL MUST BE PROHIBITED FROM EVER WEARING OUR SILVER DOLPHINS.
And young Mid if you are reading this: DON"T CALL ME FELLOW SUBMARINER. You haven't paid your dues.
There's more to this stuff than cramming for an exam.
